Levomethadyl (withdrawn from market in 2003)

  • Dispensed only by Approved Treatment Programs (DEA, FDA and designated state authority)
  • Indication: Only for treatment of narcotic addiction
  • Administration: Approved regimen is thrice weekly or every other day dosing. Dosing on daily basis leads to accumulation and risk of fatal overdose. Daily dosing should be approached with extreme caution and only with very small doses ( 5 to 10 mg)
  • Concurrent Use/Abuse of alcohol or other psychoactive drugs may result in fatal overdose. Patients must be warned that the peak activity of this drug is not immediate and that abuse of above agents may result in fatal overdose, especially with the first few doses, either during initial therapy or after lapse of treatment.
