Bacitracin (Injection)
Nephrotoxicity
- Tubular and glomerular necrosis associated with parenteral (IM) use.
- Restrict use to infants with staphylococcal pneumonia or empyema due to susceptible organisms.
- Use only where adequate laboratory facilities are available and constant supervision of patient is possible.
- Avoid concurrent nephrotoxic drugs(e.g. streptomycin, kanamycin, polymixin B, colistin, neomycin)
- Monitor renal function at baseline and daily during therapy
- Do not exceed recommended daily dose
- Maintain fluid intake and urinary output at proper levels to avoid kidney toxicity.
